This year, the concept of Vishukainettam has changed slightly. What was a token amount for Vishu given by karnavars to the younger folks is now the rolling trophy for the best Vishu sadya. The race is on for 2003. Who will win the cup?
The contest begins on 15th april. Due to some complexity in 'sangramam', which happens once in 12 or 15 years, Vishu is a day late. Vishu, for those who never cared to know or wanted a taste of, is the birth of a new year as marked in the malayalam calendar [malayalam is the language best spoken in kerala]. It usually falls on 14th april ['medam onnu']. But this year [2003], it fell on the 15th. Hence the musing!
